SUSAN BAUER-WU, PhD, RN, FAAN, is the President of the Mind & Life Institute with a distinctive background as a clinician, academic researcher, meditation practitioner and university teacher whose work has focused on mindfulness and contemplative practices in health care and higher education. Before joining Mind and Life in December 2015, Susan was the Kluge Professor of Contemplative End-of-Life Care and director of the Compassionate Care Initiative at the University of Virginia (UVa) School of Nursing, associate faculty in the UVa Department of Religious Studies, and member of the UVa Contemplative Sciences Center. Besides many academic publications, Susan is the author of the book for the lay public, Leaves Falling Gently: Living Fully with Serious and Life-Limiting Illness through Mindfulness, Compassion, & Connectedness. She is a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Executive Nurse Fellow, Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, and on the board of advisors of Mindful magazine.
